London Infrastructure Plan

The Mayor of London has today launched a consultation into London's first long-term infrastructure plan; 'London 2050, Bigger and Better'. The consultation on the proposals will run for three months before a report is published in early 2015.


The plan's scope covers all areas of infrastructure and aims to address the following questions:


- What infrastructure will we need?


- Where will it go?


- How will it be delivered?


- How will it be paid for?


The plan sets out the infrastructure requirements for the capital, highlights of which include 1.5 million new homes, a 70% increase in public transport capacity and an additional 9,000ha of accessible green space. Three options are provided for the location of development, based on three different models of growth. A new infrastructure board will lead on how the infrastructure is delivered. The plan calls for new funding streams, as the required changes would require a doubling in expenditure based on current levels.
